Lana Del ReyWith the theme of Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, the Met Gala 2018 saw stars of the fashion, film and music worlds take to the red – or in this case, gold – carpet in suitably dramatic attire. The beauty to match the gowns was, unsurprisingly, just as attention-grabbing. From sky-scraping headpieces to heavenly make-up looks, celestially-glowing skin and more gold eyeliner than we’ve ever seen in one place, see the best beauty from the night below.Lana Del Rey, Jared Leto, Gucci

Lana Del Rey is no stranger to ethereal dresses and glitzy headpieces, but this year’s Met Gala look took this penchant both for Gucci and statement headpieces even further. Del Rey showed up to the red carpet flanked by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and actor and musician Jared Leto in a cream-color dress with gold accents, including a sacred heart chest plate (with multiple tiny daggers stuck in it!) and an ombré blue headpiece with wings. Michele and Leto wore similarly intricate Gucci ensembles with blue accents and golden crowns, and together, the three looked as if they had walked straight out of a Renaissance-era painting hanging in the Uffizi gallery. Leave it to Lana to take the Catholic imagery theme to a heart-and-daggers extreme.

The bodice features ‘The Seven Sorrows of Mary’ with the initials ‘LDR’ on the sacred heart. The skirt features hand stitched gold metal and colored silk thread embroidery inspired by baroque floral motifs and daggers with a pleated tulle and lace underskirt. Completing the look is a handmade headpiece with painted feathers and crystal halo and handmade antique glass stick representing the eyes of Saint Lucy. MetHeavenlyBodiesLady of Sorrow
